Day 01.- Lima-Iquitos (Victoria Regia Hotel)
River and its vegetation in Pacaya SamiriaRiver and its vegetation in Pacaya SamiriaReception at the luggage claim area of the Iquitos Int’l Airport, where our staff will be waiting for you. Then we will take you to our operative offices in Iquitos where we will give you an orientation of our services in accord with your program. Free time in Iquitos. Lunch in the Hotel restaurant. In the afternoon we will go to Quistococha Lagoon to observe the different species flooded woodlands birds. This activity takes place around the Lagoon and takes approximately 2 hours.
The range of Amazonian Parrotlet, formerly known only in southeast Peru , was greatly extended in the north by sightings here. The palm swamps and surrounding areas have species like the Lesser Swallow-tailed Swift, Point–tailed Palmcreeper, Sulphury Flycatcher, Olivaceus Woodcreeper, Lettered Aracari, Chestnut-eared Aracari, White-lored Euphonia, Red-eyed Vireo, Spotted Tody-Flycatcher. In the palm trees is possible to find birds such as Short-tailed Swifts breeding or roosting.
On your way back to Iquitos , it is possible to find flying the Zone – Tailed Hawk and Pearl Kites. Dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Day 02.- Allpahuayo-Mishana National Reserve (RNAM) / Zungarococha Lagoon
Heron in Pacaya SamiriaHeron in Pacaya SamiriaWake up time is 4:15 am - Breakfast. We will head for the reserve using the Iquitos-Nauta Highway till Kilometer 25.
5:30 am – We start our expedition with a bird expert from the Allpahuayo-Mishana Reserve, He will explain the differences between the several environments. From at least 100 meters from the highway you can already observe approximately 15 - 20 species of birds, among them nocturnal birds and some other nocturnal animals such as amphibians and monkeys.

We will then use a jungle path to an observation post where we will be able to observe birds species such as the Ancient Antwren, Gray-legged Tinamou (only between December and March months) ,The Mishana Tyrannulet, Northern Chestnut-tailed antbird, Pompadour Cotinga, Allpahuayo Antbird and the new Iquitos gnatcacher recently registered as Polioptila clementsi, Brown-banded Puffbird (Notharchus ordii), Citron-belied Attila (Attila citriniventris), Safron-crested Tyran-Manakin (Neopelma chrysocephalum), Yellow-throated Flycatcher (Conopias parava). We will return to the highway and then to the comfortable Zungarococha Lodge to rest and have lunch.

In the afternoon : Free Time for activities including: swimming pool, fishing in the Zungarococha lake (seasonal - high river level), or simply rest in hammocks. The forest clearing at the Lodge provides some good birding activities, particularly if trees are fruiting. The best place is the lake , the flooded trees at the lake edge have species like the Orange-crowned Manakin, the rare Amazonian Scrub-Flycatcher and Black-crested Antshrike. As we keep looking for birds we can find the Pied Puffbird perched on exposed branches. The palm swamps in the harbor area is possible to find the Point-tailed Palmcreeper and Sulphury Flycatcher . Spend the night in the Lodge.

Day 03.- Nauta – Pacaya Samiria National Reserve
HummingbirdHummingbird4:15 am (approximately) - Wake up time for Breakfast. We will take the bus from Zungarococha to the Allpahuayo – Mishana Reserve. We will continue looking for new species including the Iquitos Gnatcather and others white-sand specialists such as the Pearly Antshrike, White –plumed Antbird, White-browed Purpletuft

Return to the highway and to Iquitos then we will take you to the river port of Bellavista, on the Nanay River, where we will take a speed boat that will take us to the Heliconia Lodge. During this boat ride we will be able to observe our first Large-billed and Yellow-billed Terns and in some occasions Yellow-headed Vulture. Once we arrive to the lodge we will have Lunch.

In the afternoon we will start a jungle hike into the Yanamono Streams near the Lodge looking for varzea specialists like the Pale-legged Hornero, Warbling antbird, Violaceus trogon, White-eared Jacamar, Buff-throated Woodcreeper. For terra firme forest , you will find some manakin species , including Golden-headed Manakin, which is replaced on the south side of the Amazon by Red-headed Manakin, Blue-headed Manakin, Reddish Hermit, Golden-collared Toucanet, Fasciated Antshrike and Short-billed Antwren. In these excursions into the lands of the Yanamono Community , we can see the huge Ceiba tree. Return to the lodge and rest. Dinner. Free time.

Day 04.- Yanamono Rainforest
Yanayacu riverYanayacu riverEarly birdwatching. We will start very early going by boat to one of the several streams (if the water level allows us ). We will be looking for birds such as the Wattled Jacana, , White-eared Jacamar, Black Capped Donacobius, Red Capped Cardinald , Amazon Kingfisher, Green Kingfisher, Ringed Kingfisher , Black-Collared Hawk, Amazonian Antshrike, Amazonian-streaked Antwrent, Black Caracara, Plumbeus Antbird , Great Egret, Greater Ani, Squirrel Cuco and Oriole Blackbird.

After breakfast , we will take a walk in the Yanamono Streams area in terra firme forest where we hopefully observe , Black Fronted Nunbird, Blue Gray Tanager, Roadside Hawk, Yellow Haded Caracara, Chachalaca, White-throated Toucan , Yellow Rumped Cacique and others.

In the afternoon, a speed boat will take us to the Napo River . This river is more suited for viewing river edge species than the wide Amazon River. Species like Black –necked Red Cotinga , Orange –eyed Flycatcher, Swallow-wing, Cestnut-crowned Becard can be seen. Then we will visit to one of the oxbow lakes to see Hoatzins Plum-throated Cotinga, among other species. Also looking for birds like Black-collared Hawk, Great Black-Hawk, Capped Heron and three species of Kingfishers (American Pygmy Kingfisher, Green and Rufous Kingfisher, Green Kingfisher) , during this time we can also have the opportunity to look out for the Pink Amazon River Dolphin (Inia Geoffrensis), they can be very shy. Return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 05.- Yanamono Rainforest/ Iquitos

We will be looking out for birds such as the Wattled Jacana, White-Eared Jacamar, Black Capped Donacobius, Red Capped Cardinal , Amazon Kingfisher, Green Kingfisher, Ringed Kingfisher , Black-Collared Hawk ,Gilded Barbet , Scarlet-crowned Barbet, Crimson-crested Woodpecker, Cream-colored Woodpecker, Striped Woodcreeper, Band-tailed Manakin among other species. After lunch, return to Iquitos. Transfer to the Airport.
