Lunahuaná is one of those towns that, just by pronouncing its name one can recall emtions of adventure. And it is true that adventure is everyday bread in Lunahuaná, specially if you are young and you like adventure sports.
Even tough many people think that in Lunahuaná we can only do rafting, the truth is that there are many other things to do there, many other attractions to visit and enjoy. Departure:
If you wish an organized trip and do not want to have problems, I recommend you to take a tour, it is really the best option, so you can forget all worries about the trip and just enjoy the experience.
If you decide to go on your own, then it will be necessary to take some of these buses that goes to San Vicente de Cañete. Many of these transportation companies are in Grau Avenue or nearby zones. The departure time is around 8am any day, and if you go early you can find tickets for that same time. It is also possible to make a good sighseeing in Lunahuana in just one day, coming back at night, but if you prefer you can find hotels and do tourism in many more days through the different places that I will show you.
Once in San Vicente de Cañete, after about two hours and a half to three hours, it is necessary to take some minibuses that will take you to Imperial district. The duration of this trip is short and can take from 15 to 25 minutes depending on how fast you find transportation.
It is from Imperial where the mini buses or taxis to Lunahuana depart. The prices of these last ones can vary from 3.5 to 5 soles approximately and the duration of the trip to Lunahuana takes around 45 minutes. That said, you can be arriving to Lunahuana at midnoon approximately.
If you are thinking in doing rafting, you should take extra clothes, because the ones you are wearing will be really wet after you leave the shore of the river. If you also want to stay for the night you can find hotels or make camping. I will tell you some options where to find those according to your budget.
First sight of Lunahuaná
This is the first sight you will get when you arrive to the valley of Lunahuana. It is, no doubt, an amazing place, perfect to start the adventure.

Lunahuaná gets anually 120 thousand tourists, 30 thousand of those goes exclusively for rafting. The Cañete river is one of the best in Peru for this kind of sport. You can also do rafting in other rivers in Peru like in Urubamba, Cusco, but in Cañete the water is not as cold and has rapids of many different levels, which makes it appropiately for starters in this sport.
In Lunahuaná we can find an excelent rural landscape thanks to the wealthy valley that it has, great wine and pisco producers, beekeeping centres, try the best dishes made with shrimp river in Peru, enjoy horseback riding and four-wheel motorcycles, walk through the hanging bridge, as well as the Incawasi ruins, Pacallo and others. And finally, if you like boating, it is a destination worth visiting more than once.
In the next blog post I will be showing you the best accommodation options that you can find there and the wineries and pisco producers that you can visit.
